Kenya Power Outage January 15 to Hit Nairobi, Nakuru, Busia and Isiolo

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenya Power has announced a series of scheduled electricity outages set to affect parts of Nairobi, Nakuru, Busia, and Isiolo counties on Thursday, January 15, 2026, as the utility undertakes planned maintenance and network upgrades.

In a public notice issued by the company, the outages will run for most of the day across different regions, with the utility saying the interruptions are necessary to improve system reliability, enhance safety, and support growing electricity demand in the affected areas.

In Nairobi County, Kenya Power said power will be switched off from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. in several parts of South C, including Mahoa Avenue, Mama Ngina Children’s Home, Rubis, parts of Ole Shapara Avenue, Reliance Hospital, KEWI, Al Jazeera, Uchumi Road, Parkview East, Heshima Estate, Five Star Estate, Olive Road, parts of Kawi Complex Road, Five Star Road, Midland Court, Halai Estate, Ruby Estate, Memon Estate, Akiba Estate, and adjacent customers.

The utility said the maintenance works in Nairobi are aimed at stabilising the network in high-density residential and commercial areas that have experienced growing electricity demand in recent months.

In Nakuru County, power will be interrupted from 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. in parts of Milimani and Forest Road, including Milimani, Forest Road, Kirima Market, Safaricom Boosters, Hotel Margadori, Graceland Hotels, Apex Hotel, Seven Heights, Merahi Heights, and neighbouring customers.

The area hosts a mix of residential estates, hospitality businesses, and telecom infrastructure, making power reliability a critical issue for service delivery.

Kenya Power also listed Busia County among the affected regions. In Port Victoria, electricity will be off from 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m., affecting the Port Victoria KPLC Office, Port Victoria Market, Law Courts, Omena Beach, Bukoma Beach, St Ann Secondary School, John Osogo Secondary School, Bulemia Market, Port Victoria Hospital, Chasebay, and surrounding areas.

The town serves as a major fishing and trading hub along Lake Victoria, meaning the outage is expected to disrupt business, health services, and cold-chain storage.

In Isiolo County, parts of Isiolo Town, Archers Post and Tank Battalion will experience outages from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Affected areas include Pepo La Tumaini, Bula Mpya, Sec Kamibi Ortha, Kambi Bulle, Shambani, Kambi Garba, Mabatini, El Boran, Archers Post, Sarova Shaba, Kalama, Lengusaka, Lerata, Wamba Town, Swari, Lolokwe, Mwangaza Water Supply, Airport, Kandebe Market, Tank Battalion, Kambi Sheriff, Osman Ndima, Nutule Primary, Kisima Borehole, Kambi Ya Juu, Kula Mawe, Soko Mjinga, Mwangaza, County Assembly, Silver Bell, 19 Coins, Glados Hotel, Basalinga, Total, Shell, National Cereals Board, General Hospital, Down Town, Police, Safi Estate and Bulla Pesa.

The outages come as Kenya Power continues a nationwide programme to upgrade distribution lines, replace ageing infrastructure, and improve power quality amid rising electricity consumption driven by urbanisation, industrial growth, and increased household connections.
