Nairobi, Kenya- The search for justice in the killing of Nairobi lawyer Kyalo Mbobu has taken a new turn, with police confirming that detectives are following promising leads into his September 8 murder along Magadi Road.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and DCI Director Mohamed Amin say a dedicated team is now closing in on the perpetrators, even as Kenyans demand answers in one of the most high-profile cases of the year.
Investigations Enter Crucial Stage
Speaking in a live interview on Citizen TV Monday evening, IG Kanja revealed that the probe into Mbobu’s killing was in “advanced stages.” He confirmed that three suspects were initially arrested but later released after being cleared by investigators.
“Investigations are in progress, and I have directed the DCI that we need to move with speed,” Kanja said. “Currently, we are following very useful leads… we are going to get the culprits.”
The IG, however, avoided giving specific timelines, stressing that the detectives need adequate time to piece together evidence.
He also raised concerns about the reluctance of potential witnesses to share critical information that could help unravel the case.
DCI Boss Assembles Elite Homicide Team
DCI Director Mohamed Amin echoed the IG’s assurances, noting that a “robust team” from the homicide unit is handling the case.
He confirmed that the three people earlier arrested remain persons of interest, though no conclusive link has been established yet.
“The matter of the deceased advocate is one we are taking very seriously,” Amin said. “As I was coming to this studio, I left my team of detectives sifting through the evidence.”
According to Amin, detectives have secured “great leads” into the killers’ identities, though he declined to disclose details citing the sensitivity of the probe. He urged the public to remain patient, insisting that apprehending Mbobu’s killers is a top priority.
On the day of the shooting, Mbobu reportedly spoke to at least 15 people, a detail now guiding investigators as they piece together his final hours.
Detectives have also retrieved documents from his office that could help establish a motive.
The murder of Kyalo Mbobu has shocked Kenya’s legal fraternity and reignited concerns over attacks targeting advocates. With public pressure mounting, police are under intense scrutiny to deliver swift justice.
For now, both the IG and the DCI insist they are on the right track — but with no arrests yet, Kenyans remain anxious to see whether these “useful leads” will finally bring the killers to book.
