DPP Orders Fast-Tracked Probe into Murder of Lawyer Kyalo Mbobu

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has directed police to expedite investigations into the killing of prominent lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu, who was gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Karen, Nairobi.

In a statement on Thursday, the DPP described Mbobu’s death as a tragic loss to the legal fraternity and the country at large.

The advocate of the High Court was fatally shot earlier this week, sparking widespread outrage and grief.

The DPP extended condolences to Mbobu’s family, friends, colleagues, and the broader legal community, noting that his distinguished career had spanned academia, public service, and private practice.

“His exemplary leadership greatly shaped the teaching and practice of the Law of Evidence in Kenya,” the statement read.

While welcoming the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ (DCI) commitment to pursue justice, the DPP ordered the Inspector General of Police to fast-track inquiries and submit a comprehensive status report within seven days.

The office emphasized the need to identify, collect, and preserve all critical evidence in strict compliance with the law.

The ODPP also urged members of the public with information relevant to the case to come forward and assist law enforcement agencies.

Reaffirming its position, the prosecution authority pledged “unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and safeguarding the security and dignity of every Kenyan.”
