NAIROBI, Kenya- Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is mourning the death of his elder sister, Eunice Nyangari Gachagua, who passed away in Naro Moru on Thursday.
In a heartfelt tribute, Gachagua said the family of the late Mzee Nahashon Gachagua Reriani and the late Martha Kirigo Gachagua had lost its firstborn daughter and a central figure in the family.
The former Deputy President said Eunice, who was 77, had stepped into a motherly role following the death of their mother seven years ago.
“The late Eunice has been the mother figure in our family since the demise of our mother seven years ago,” Gachagua said.
He extended condolences to her children, Waithera and Murimi, as well as her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the wider Reriani family.
“My family shares in the pain and grief of each and every one of us,” he said.
A warm and wise family figure
Gachagua described his sister as a warm, happy and wise person whose presence brought comfort and joy to those around her.
He said the family would deeply miss her counsel, warmth and the precious moments they shared over the years.
“We thank God for the 77 years she lived happily here on earth. We will deeply miss her wise counsel, warmth and the precious moments we shared,” he said.
“Eunice was a happy and warm soul who lit up our hearts.”
The death has brought renewed grief to the Gachagua family, which lost its matriarch seven years ago. Her role as the firstborn and mother figure, Gachagua said, made her passing especially painful for the family.
Prayers for the family
Gachagua prayed for comfort for the bereaved family and for the soul of his sister to rest in eternal peace.
“We pray that her soul may rest in peace and that perpetual light may shine upon her forever,” he said.
Details of funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
