NAIROBI, Kenya- The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has officially opened its application portal, allowing students to apply for degree courses for the 2026/2027 academic year.
The announcement was made by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba on Tuesday, April 7, following a briefing with KUCCPS officials led by CEO Agnes Wahome.
Application window opens with May 6 deadline
Ogamba urged eligible 2025 KCSE candidates to submit their applications through the official KUCCPS portal.
Students have four weeks to apply, with the window set to close on May 6, 2026.
The CS said the placement cycle is now fully operational after preparations by KUCCPS, chaired by Cyrus Gituai.
How students can apply through KUCCPS portal
Applicants are required to log in using their KCSE index number, year of examination, and password.
Students have been advised to use either their KCPE index number or birth certificate number as the password.
Only candidates who scored C+ and above qualify to apply for degree programmes.
List of universities and funding options revealed
KUCCPS confirmed that 42 public universities and the Open University of Kenya are available for placement under government scholarships and Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) loans.
Additionally, 30 private universities have been listed, but students admitted there will only qualify for HELB loans and not government scholarships.
The placement process is expected to determine university admissions for thousands of students across the country.
