Six Killed in Bus–Trailer Crash on Nairobi–Mombasa Highway

Date:

TAITA TAVETA, Kenya — Six people have been confirmed dead following a tragic road accident involving a passenger bus and a trailer in the Manyatta area along the busy Nairobi–Mombasa highway.

Preliminary reports indicate that the accident occurred after a Chania Executive bus attempted to overtake another vehicle before colliding head-on with an oncoming trailer.

Witnesses said the impact severely damaged the right side of the bus before it lost control and veered off the highway.

Several passengers sustained injuries in the crash and were rushed to Moi Referral Hospital, Voi, for emergency treatment.

Authorities are yet to release the identities of the victims as rescue and investigation efforts continue at the scene.

Road safety officials say the Nairobi–Mombasa highway remains one of the country’s busiest transport corridors, carrying heavy cargo traffic between the port city of Mombasa and the capital, Nairobi.

Overtaking manoeuvres on narrow stretches of the road have frequently been cited as a major cause of accidents along the route.

Police officers and emergency responders were dispatched to the scene to clear the wreckage and restore normal traffic flow.

Investigations into the exact cause of the accident are ongoing.

More details to follow.
