CS Margaret Ndung’u Urges ICT Leaders To Drive Inclusive Digital Transformation in Kenya

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- In a stirring call to action, ICT Cabinet Secretary Dr. Margaret Ndung’u urged senior ICT officials to build on the decade-long investments in Kenya’s digital infrastructure to foster inclusive, secure, and accessible digital growth.

Her remarks, delivered during the closing ceremony of the Induction Program for ICT Secretaries and Directors at the Kenya School of Government (KSG), Lower Kabete, underscored the pivotal role these leaders play in shaping the future of Kenya’s digital landscape.

Dr. Ndung’u emphasized the importance of ensuring that digital access is inclusive, addressing the needs of all citizens across Kenya.

“As public servants in the 21st century, you stand at the forefront of a remarkable opportunity to shape the future, leave a lasting legacy, and contribute to a transformative era in ICT,” she said.

The CS highlighted the necessity of implementing the Digital Superhighway as outlined in the Digital Masterplan, aligning with the government’s priorities and Kenya Vision 2030.

The CS also pointed out the potential of emerging technologies and innovation in expanding the digital economy. By focusing on areas like software engineering, e-commerce, and manufacturing, Kenya can accelerate its growth in the global digital economy.

Dr. Ndung’u called on ICT leaders to be proactive in adopting these innovations while ensuring that the benefits reach every corner of the country.

As Kenya continues to expand its digital footprint, Dr. Ndung’u highlighted the critical need to bolster cybersecurity and data management practices.

She stressed that as the nation progresses, it must also protect its digital infrastructure from potential risks by adhering to global cybersecurity norms.

This proactive approach is essential for maintaining trust and security in Kenya’s digital services, ensuring that the country remains a safe and attractive destination for digital business and innovation.

KSG Director General Prof. Nura Mohamed praised the knowledge gained by the ICT Secretaries and Directors during the induction program, encouraging them to make a lasting positive impact.

He noted that KSG has established a Centre of Excellence and E-learning and Development Institute, which aims to foster growth in the digital space.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to support continuous development and excellence in Kenya’s ICT sector.
