NAIROBI, Kenya– From the next financial year, every procurement process at the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) will only be conducted digitally, as the agency aligns with government directives to tighten transparency in public spending.
The authority, which oversees the development and maintenance of national road networks, confirmed that tenders for goods, services, and works in 2025/26 will be channeled exclusively through the Electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) portal.
“All interested suppliers, contractors, consultants, and service providers are required to register on the Electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) System,” KeNHA said in a notice.
“Bidders are advised to frequently check the platform to keep up with procurement opportunities as they arise.”
One of the flagship projects earmarked for the upcoming cycle is the construction of the Uplands–Githunguri–Ruiru (B116) road, listed as a top priority in the tender schedule.
Physical bid submissions will no longer be entertained, the highways authority stressed, making online registration a compulsory step for participation.
The shift follows President William Ruto’s directive issued in November 2024, requiring the system’s full rollout by early 2025.
The President has framed the platform as central to eliminating ghost firms, curbing inflated quotations, and boosting efficiency across public procurement.
The e-GP platform is designed to digitize the entire procurement chain from planning and advertising, to bidding, awarding, contract management, and payments.
Integrated with key systems including the Kenya Revenue Authority’s iTax, the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS), and the Business Registration Service, the portal aims to standardize processes across all ministries, agencies, and county governments.
