In a statement on Wednesday, the regulatory body announced that samples from Batch No. 2405055 failed the freedom from holes test, which assesses for defects that could compromise protection.
“As a precautionary measure, the board advises all pharmaceutical outlets, healthcare facilities, healthcare professionals, and members of the public to immediately quarantine the product,” the statement read.
The PPB ordered a halt to the distribution, sale, and use of the affected batch, directing customers to return the condoms to the nearest healthcare facility or supplier for proper handling.
Members of the public have been urged to report any instances of substandard medical products or adverse drug reactions to the PPB or their nearest health facility.
PPB Chief Executive Officer Fred Siyoi emphasized the board’s commitment to ensuring public health and safety.
“The board remains vigilant to guarantee that all medical products in circulation meet required quality standards,” he said.
The recall underscores the importance of quality assurance in protective health products, as defects can lead to significant health risks, including the spread of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unintended pregnancies.
Consumers who may have purchased the affected batch are encouraged to stop using the product immediately and seek replacements.
