NAIROBI, Kenya – Kenyans should brace for chilly mornings, patchy rainfall, and gusty winds this week, according to the latest forecast by the Kenya Meteorological Department.
Covering the period from July 22 to July 28, 2025, the department’s weekly update predicts light showers in parts of the Central Highlands and western counties — a welcome break for farmers navigating an otherwise dry season.
However, cold and cloudy conditions are set to dominate much of the country, particularly the Southeastern lowlands, the Rift Valley, and highland areas.
Temperatures are expected to dip below 10°C in regions near Mt Kilimanjaro and parts of Central Kenya.
In contrast, daytime temperatures in Northeastern and Northwestern counties are projected to rise above 30°C, with hot and dry conditions persisting throughout the week.
The coastal strip, as well as Northeastern, Northwestern, and Southeastern regions, are forecast to experience strong winds exceeding 25 knots.
These could disrupt outdoor activities, transport, and small boat operations along the coast.
The weatherman urged residents in colder areas to keep warm and advised motorists to remain cautious, citing the risk of reduced visibility and slippery roads in areas likely to receive rainfall.
In its broader July 2025 climate outlook, the Met Department indicated that most parts of Kenya will continue experiencing cool conditions, cloudy skies, and intermittent light rains — especially in Nairobi, the Central Highlands, and parts of the Rift Valley.
Rainfall is expected to be near to above average in regions including the Lake Victoria Basin, western and eastern highlands of the Rift Valley (such as Nyandarua and Laikipia), the Central and Southern Rift, and areas of Northwestern Kenya.
The department also noted that hilly and mountainous zones may see increased cloudiness, accompanied by fog and drizzle during early mornings and late evenings.
