Kenyan comedian and content creator Sammy Kioko has officially announced his intention to vie for the Mavoko parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.
Kioko announced on Friday, September 11, 2026, during an event to unveil his candidature, attended by family, friends, supporters and several personalities from Kenya’s entertainment industry.
The comedian said his decision followed his interactions with residents of Mavoko and his desire to take a more active role in public service.
“On this day, September 11, 2026, I stand before you with a lot of humility, gratitude and a big sense of responsibility,” Kioko said.
He then formally declared his intention to contest the seat.
“I have listened, I have walked with you and I am ready to take the next step. I, Sammy Kioko, officially declare my candidature for the Member of Parliament, Mavoko Constituency,” he said.
Kioko also unveiled “Mbele Pazuri” as his campaign slogan as he begins his political journey ahead of the 2027 polls.
The announcement marks a major shift for the comedian, who has built his public profile through comedy, acting and digital content.
However, Kioko has not yet disclosed the political party whose ticket he intends to use in the 2027 election.
The Mavoko parliamentary seat is currently held by Patrick Makau King’ola of the Wiper Democratic Movement.
Kioko’s entry into the race adds another entertainment personality to the growing list of Kenyan creatives seeking elective office. Several artists, comedians and media personalities have ventured into politics in recent years, with some successfully transitioning their public visibility into political careers.
At his candidature unveiling, the comedian received support from several colleagues in the entertainment industry.
Among those present were comedian Tom Daktari, content creator Terence Creative, gospel singer John Kay and MC Kayeye.
Daktari offered financial and logistical support to Kioko’s campaign, announcing a Sh210,000 contribution and gifting him a Prado.
Daktari said the Sh210,000 contribution was a reference to an earlier period in their careers when Kioko sent him Sh210 to help him with fare.
“I have started the donations with 210,000. And the main reason why I chose that specific amount is that I remember way back the first amount of money Sammy sent me for fare was KSh210,” Daktari said.
The comedian has in recent months also been vocal on issues affecting residents in Machakos County.
In March 2026, Kioko was involved in a dispute concerning alleged unpaid dues from the Machakos County Government. At the time he was demanding Sh19 million over supplies and had participated in protests over the matter.
His political announcement now gives that public profile a new dimension as he seeks to represent Mavoko residents in Parliament.
Kioko, however, is yet to unveil a detailed manifesto outlining the specific policies and development priorities he would pursue if elected.
