Three Nairobi Robbery Suspects Arrested as DCI Recovers Pistol and Getaway Motorbikes

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested three suspects believed to be behind a series of violent robberies in Nairobi and recovered a loaded pistol and two motorcycles suspected to have been used in the crimes.

The suspects were arrested during an intelligence-led operation conducted by the DCI Headquarters Operation Action Team (OAT) along Ngina Road in Kawangware following investigations into robberies reported in Westlands and other parts of the capital.

According to the DCI, the operation began with the arrest of Nimrod Khayeshe, also known as Buba, who was identified as a key suspect in the robbery investigations.

Police said information obtained during his interrogation led detectives to two alleged accomplices, Vangelis Njungi, alias Vangi, and Patrick Kingato, who were subsequently arrested.

During the operation, detectives recovered a Retay Falcon pistol fitted with a magazine containing three rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Investigators also seized two motorcycles, registration numbers KMGT 497W and KMHG 829H, which police believe were used as getaway bikes during the alleged robberies.

The three suspects remain in police custody as detectives complete investigations before presenting them in court.

The recovered firearm, ammunition and motorcycles have been detained as exhibits and will form part of the prosecution’s evidence if charges are preferred.

In a statement, the DCI said the arrests demonstrate the agency’s continued reliance on intelligence-led policing to dismantle organised criminal gangs operating within Nairobi and other parts of the country.
