EACC Seizes Over Sh12 Million in Kiambu Governor’s Home

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have seized KES 12 million in cash and USD 13,000 during an early morning raid at the residence of Kiambu Governor Paul Kimani Wamatangi.

The raid, part of a larger investigation into alleged fraudulent deals within Kiambu County, is focused on uncovering embezzlement of public funds estimated at KES 1.5 billion.

The EACC’s investigation involves a number of senior county officials, including County Secretary Peter Njoroge Ndegwa and Finance CEC Nancy Njeri Kirumba, who are suspected of misappropriating county resources through inflated contracts and fraudulent transactions.

The seized funds, found in the governor’s home, are believed to be the proceeds of corruption tied to two major transactions under investigation.

Money recovered from the governor’s residence by EACC detectives.

One involves a KES 230 million contract awarded to Filtronic International for an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, while the other concerns suspicious payments made for non-existent services.

EACC CEO Abdi Mohamud confirmed that investigators had gathered substantial evidence, including financial records and digital data, to pursue criminal charges and asset recovery in this high-profile case.

“The discovery of large sums of unexplained cash in the possession of public officials is deeply concerning,” Mohamud stated, adding that the commission would take all necessary steps to ensure justice is served.

The seizure of the funds has raised alarm over corruption within Kiambu County’s government, prompting calls for greater accountability and transparency in public sector financial management.
