Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Former Harambee Stars ace and Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Vice President McDonald Mariga is mourning the loss of his mother, Mildred Wanyama, who passed away peacefully on Saturday morning.

In a heartfelt message shared on his official X account, Mariga expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing her passing as a moment of “great sadness.”

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, who left us peacefully today morning,” he wrote.

The family has not disclosed the cause of her death, noting that burial arrangements are currently underway and details will be shared in due course.

She was the wife of AFC Leopards legend Noah Wanyama and the proud mother of several professional athletes, including ex-Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama, Thomas, Sylvester, and basketball star Mercy Wanyama.

Affectionately known in local sporting circles, Mama Mildred was a familiar face in the stands, often cheering her children on with pride.

Her unwavering presence and support helped shape one of Kenya’s most iconic sporting lineages.

Tributes from fans, fellow athletes, and sports officials have started pouring in as the Kenyan sports community mourns the loss of a woman many regarded as the quiet force behind some of the country’s most gifted athletes.
