NYERI, Kenya — Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Tuesday hosted Mumias East MP Peter Salasya at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County, describing the youthful legislator as a principled leader with the potential to play a bigger role in Kenya’s future leadership.

In a statement released after the meeting, Gachagua said he was pleased to receive the first-term lawmaker as part of the consultations he has been holding at his rural home following a series of political rallies across the country.

“I was very delighted to receive my good friend, Mumias East MP Peter Salasya, who called on me today at Wamunyoro Residence,” Gachagua said.

Gachagua Praises Salasya

The former Deputy President commended Salasya’s leadership, saying the legislator had demonstrated courage, vision and a strong connection with ordinary Kenyans.

He said Kenya should deliberately invest in mentoring young leaders with integrity and a clear vision for the country’s future.

“Salasya, a young legislator, is a steadfast leader with a bright future. We must be deliberate in mentoring our young leaders who are principled and have a vision for our great country, Kenya, and prepare them for national leadership,” he said.

Gachagua also praised the Mumias East MP’s communication style, saying his use of humour and wit had made him one of the country’s most recognisable young politicians.

“I am ever proud of Salasya’s wisdom and his powerful messaging, delivered with great humour and wit. The young leader has really made my day. He has left me filled with joy and greatly enlightened,” he added.

Wamunyoro Consultations Continue

The meeting comes as Gachagua continues hosting political consultations at his Wamunyoro residence after concluding weeks of high-profile grassroots rallies in different parts of the country.

According to his allies, the consultations are intended to review the impact of his recent political engagements, assess the evolving political landscape and plan the next phase of mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Sources close to the former Deputy President say political leaders, opinion shapers and grassroots coordinators from various regions have been visiting Wamunyoro to discuss coalition-building efforts and emerging political realignments.

Focus on Youth Leadership

Gachagua used the meeting to reiterate the importance of nurturing young leaders and creating opportunities for them to contribute to national development.

“The greatest resource our country has is our productive and young leaders. We must give them hope, a great country and, especially, a great economy,” he said.

He concluded his statement with a message that has increasingly become associated with his meetings at Wamunyoro: “Consultations continue.”
