NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenya has intensified efforts to strengthen economic ties with China after Principal Secretary for Trade Regina Ombam held talks with Wang Jun, the Vice Minister for General Administration of China Customs (GACC).
The meeting focused on expanding bilateral cooperation and unlocking new trade opportunities between the two countries.
PS Ombam highlighted the long-standing Kenya–China partnership, saying Nairobi is keen to deepen relations to boost mutual economic growth.
She noted China’s vast market potential for Kenyan exports such as tea, coffee, cut flowers, and avocados, emphasising the need to seize emerging opportunities amid shifting global trade dynamics.
Ombam also acknowledged China’s major investments in Kenya’s infrastructure, education, and green energy sectors, crediting them with contributing to national development over the years.
Talks further centred on the Early Harvest Agreement, with both sides agreeing that ongoing negotiations would lay the foundation for a more sustainable and predictable trade relationship.
China’s Ambassador to Kenya Guo Haiyan and senior officials from both governments attended the discussions, signalling a commitment to continued diplomatic and economic engagement.
