NAIROBI, Kenya — The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has forecast rain this week for parts of the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Coast, South-eastern Lowlands, and Western Kenya, while most of the country is expected to remain dry and sunny.
In its weekly weather advisory issued on Monday, November 24, Kenya Met said counties likely to receive moderate rainfall between Tuesday, November 25, and Monday, December 1, include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, West Pokot, Baringo, and Uasin Gishu.
The Central Highlands are expected to receive light morning and evening showers in Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Nairobi, alternating with sunny spells.
Kenya Met also issued a temperature advisory, warning of very cold nights in the Central Highlands, North and Central Rift Valley, Western Kenya, and areas near Mount Kilimanjaro, with nighttime temperatures expected to drop below 10°C in several counties.
Conversely, daytime temperatures above 30°C are expected in the Coast, North-eastern, North-western Kenya, and parts of the South-eastern Lowlands, Rift Valley, and Western regions.
The agency noted that while the short rains season, typically starting in late September and ending in December, is underway, this year’s pattern is showing variations, with prolonged sunny conditions across much of the country.
