NAIROBI, Kenya — The Kenya Urban Roads Authority has announced the temporary closure of a section of Eldoret Road in Nairobi for four months to facilitate the construction of a vehicular bridge across the Nairobi River.
In a public notice issued Monday, KURA said the closure will take effect from 6 a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2026, and remain in force until 6 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026.
According to the authority, the closure is intended to allow contractors to undertake bridge construction works aimed at improving connectivity and urban mobility within the city.
“This is to allow the contractor to undertake the construction of a vehicular bridge across the Nairobi River,” the notice stated.
Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes indicated in the traffic management plan and to follow directions issued by traffic police officers and marshals stationed along the affected areas.
KURA apologised for the expected inconvenience, saying the project forms part of broader efforts to improve Nairobi’s urban transport infrastructure.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused as we endeavour to transform urban mobility,” the authority said.
The notice was signed by KURA Director General Silas Kinoti.
The planned works are expected to affect traffic flow around sections connected to Eldoret Road and nearby access roads crossing the Nairobi River corridor.
