NAIROBI, Kenya — Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has pledged to support young adults seeking elective positions in the 2027 General Election, inviting interested candidates to reach out for mentorship despite limited resources.
In a statement shared on Tuesday, March 24, Olekina called on youths aged between 22 and 35 years who are passionate about leadership but lack finances to launch campaigns to step forward.
“Are you between 22 and 35 years old and passionate about making a difference through public office in Kenya, but lack the resources to launch your campaign? If you’re from Narok, Kajiado, Samburu, Laikipia, or Marsabit counties and hold a degree in Political Science, Communication, Social Development, or Finance, I’d love to connect with you,” Olekina said.
The senator clarified that the initiative targets young aspirants from five counties — Narok, Kajiado, Samburu, Laikipia and Marsabit — with academic backgrounds in political science, communication, social development or finance.
He said the move aims to nurture a new generation of leaders and help aspiring candidates navigate the resource-intensive nature of Kenyan politics.
“Let’s walk this journey together and explore how we can turn your leadership vision into reality,” he added.
Olekina noted that many young people with leadership potential fail to run for office due to financial constraints, limited exposure, and a lack of mentorship.
The offer comes amid growing interest among Kenyan youth in elective leadership ahead of the 2027 polls.
Many young voters and activists have increasingly called for generational change, citing dissatisfaction with the performance of leaders they have repeatedly elected.
Olekina did not outline the specific form of support but indicated that guidance and strategic assistance would be provided to help interested candidates develop viable campaigns.
