Mudavadi Calls for Action on Women’s Rights as Kenya Marks International Women’s Day

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has urged for accelerated efforts to advance the women’s agenda in Kenya, emphasizing the need for tangible action in achieving gender equality.

In a statement marking International Women’s Day 2025, Mudavadi highlighted the critical roles women play in socio-economic development and called on society to strengthen commitments that yield real, impactful change.

“March 8 is a significant day for all women and girls across the world. It is a time to celebrate their successes and progress while also reflecting on the challenges they continue to face,” Mudavadi said.

He urged Kenyans to honor and support the contributions of women in their lives, calling for equal opportunities across all sectors.

Mudavadi stressed the importance of women’s leadership in peace and security, advocating for their inclusion in conflict resolution and peacebuilding efforts.

“Women are the humanitarian voices in our society. We must ensure they can nurture communities in an environment of peace,” he said.

He further challenged the private sector, civil society, and development partners to build on Kenya’s existing policy and legislative frameworks to advance gender equality.

As part of the day’s observance, Mudavadi said the government would step up efforts to combat gender-based violence (GBV).

He emphasized the need for strong legal responses, holding perpetrators accountable, and increasing funding for women’s rights movements.

“The solution lies in robust responses, accountability, and well-resourced national strategies,” he noted.

His remarks align with this year’s global theme of forging a gender-equal world, calling for the elimination of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination.
