WAKISO, Uganda – Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni’s daughter, Pastor Patience Kokundeka Museveni Rwabwogo, has been consecrated as an Episcopal Bishop of Covenant Nations Church, marking a major milestone after two decades in ministry.
Patience was consecrated on Sunday, August 23, 2026, during a ceremony at Covenant Nations Church’s Maya Campus in Wakiso District, where President Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni joined Christian leaders, government officials and worshippers to witness her elevation.
The consecration coincided with the 20th anniversary of Covenant Nations Church, which Patience founded after starting with a small house fellowship.
Church leaders described her elevation as a landmark moment, with Ugandan reports identifying her as the first woman to be ordained to the office of bishop in Uganda.
Patience founded Covenant Nations Church about 20 years ago, beginning with a small fellowship before the ministry grew into an established church.
Church elder Allen Kagina highlighted the transformation during the consecration, describing the humble beginnings of the ministry.
“Twenty years ago, God planted in her heart a vision that began humbly as a small house fellowship.”
Kagina said the ministry had grown through prayer, perseverance and what she described as God’s faithfulness. The church’s elders also affirmed Patience’s suitability for the episcopal office before she was formally consecrated.
International evangelist Bishop Dr LaDonna C. Osborn served as the chief consecrator. Archbishop Moses Odongo and Bishop Joshua Lwere were among the co-consecrators. Nigerian Pentecostal leader Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye also participated in the service.
Osborn challenged the new bishop to embrace the responsibility of proclaiming Christ, strengthening the church and advancing what she described as God’s kingdom.
President Museveni attended the ceremony with Janet and used the occasion to celebrate his daughter’s achievement. The President said the consecration represented an important moment in his family’s Christian history, particularly because Patience had dedicated two decades to ministry.
“Today, Maama and I were very happy to witness the consecration of our daughter, Patience, as a Bishop of Covenant Nations Churches in Uganda after 20 years of ministry,” Museveni said.
Museveni also reflected on his family’s religious history. He said his father, Mzee Amos Kaguta, joined the Church in 1947 and noted that Patience’s elevation represented another chapter in the family’s Christian journey.
The President also praised his daughter’s knowledge of scripture, saying her biblical scholarship had impressed him despite his own long history of studying the Bible.
“Today, I have a whole Bishop in the family.”
Museveni also revealed that he and Janet gave Patience 50 cows as a gift to mark the milestone, incorporating a cultural tradition into the family celebration.
The consecration also carried significance for First Lady Janet Museveni, who made her first major public appearance in months following a serious health setback. Janet used the gathering to give an emotional thanksgiving testimony about her recovery, saying she had survived what she described as a life-threatening illness through God’s intervention.
“2026 is forever marked as a year you delivered my own life from the very jaws of death,” Janet said during her testimony.
She thanked God for her recovery and also acknowledged the prayers and support she received from people across Uganda during her illness. Janet described herself as being alive and well because of what she considers God’s healing power.
“Thank You Lord Jesus that You are the Healer, the Great Physician, the Doctor who never refers a case.”
The event also brought together prominent religious and political figures, including Vice President Jessica Alupo, NRM national vice chairperson Moses Kigongo, ministers, security officials, diplomats and senior Christian leaders.
