NAIROBI, Kenya — The government has published new water and sewerage tariffs for the 2026/27 financial year, setting revised charges for households, businesses, schools and other consumers across several counties.
In a Gazette Notice dated July 31, 2026, the Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB) announced the approved tariffs that will apply to all bills issued between July 15, 2026, and July 14, 2027, in accordance with the Water Act.
“Pursuant to clause 1.3 of the schedule of tariff published vide Gazette Notice No. 7302 of 2025, notice is given that all prices for water and sewerage services will be as follows for all bills issued between 15th July 2026 to 14th July 2027,” the notice states.
The revised pricing applies to customers served by Nakuru Water and Sanitation Services Company, Kitui Water and Sanitation Company, Murang’a West Water and Sanitation Company, Sibo Water and Sanitation Company, Nyahururu Water and Sanitation Company and Mathira Water and Sanitation Company.
The approved tariffs cover domestic households, multi-dwelling units (MDUs), gated communities, commercial and industrial consumers, government institutions, public schools, universities, water kiosks, bowsing points and bulk water users where applicable.
Under the new schedules, domestic consumers will continue to be billed using a tiered pricing model, with households that consume more water paying progressively higher rates per cubic metre.
For example, Nakuru Water and Sanitation Services Company will charge domestic customers Sh98 per cubic metre for the first six cubic metres of water consumed, rising to Sh170 per cubic metre for consumption above 300 cubic metres. Sewerage charges will range from Sh93 to Sh160 per cubic metre, depending on usage.
In Kitui, residential customers will pay between Sh198 and Sh261 per cubic metre, while Murang’a West has approved tariffs ranging from Sh73 to Sh156 per cubic metre for domestic users.
Residents served by Sibo Water and Sanitation Company will pay between Sh162 and Sh312 per cubic metre, while Nyahururu Water and Sanitation Company has set domestic tariffs between Sh124 and Sh181 per cubic metre.
For consumers under Mathira Water and Sanitation Company, domestic water charges will range from Sh83 to Sh151 per cubic metre, depending on consumption.
Commercial users, industries and government institutions will also pay varying rates based on consumption levels and the applicable water service provider, while separate tariffs have been approved for schools, universities, water kiosks, bowsing points and bulk water supply.
The regulator noted that the approved schedules are specific to each water service provider and customer category, meaning consumers will pay different rates depending on their location and level of consumption.
The new tariffs take effect for all qualifying bills issued during the 2026/27 tariff period.
