NYAMIRA, Kenya — Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo has been impeached by the County Assembly, following a vote to remove him from office on allegations of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and irregular appointments.
The motion was filed by Bonyamatuta Ward MCA Julius Matwere.
In the final tally, 23 of the 31 MCAs voted in favour of impeachment, with four abstaining. This decision marks the third such attempt against Governor Nyaribo in recent years.
He had previously survived an impeachment bid in September 2024 by a single vote. On that occasion, 34 MCAs convened and 22 backed his removal while 12 opposed it.
In September 2023, another motion failed after 16 members voted in favour but fell short of the two-thirds majority required.
Following the impeachment, the resolution will now move to the Senate for further deliberation.
The County Assembly Speaker is tasked with submitting the motion and supporting documentation to the upper house, which is constitutionally mandated to review the case and decide whether Nyaribo should be suspended or removed from office.
