NAIROBI, Kenya — Dan Obado, popularly known as Dan Toto and reported to be the son of former Migori Governor Okoth Obado, is recovering in hospital after surviving a road accident while travelling from Nairobi to Migori.
The accident occurred on August 1, with Dan Obado driving a Lexus RX when the vehicle was involved in a serious crash.
Footage obtained by Y News on August 2 showed the aftermath of the collision, with the luxury SUV extensively damaged. A towing truck was later seen removing the wreckage from the scene, highlighting the severity of the impact.
Despite the extensive damage to the vehicle, reports indicate that Dan Obado sustained only minor injuries. He was rushed to hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
Confirming the incident through a social media post, Dan said there were three occupants in the vehicle at the time of the accident and that everyone survived.
“To friends and relatives, I thank you so much for sending me the best wishes and prayers. It’s true I was in an accident on my way home from Nairobi,” he said.
He added that all occupants escaped with minor injuries, including the driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision.
“Luckily, all three occupants in the vehicle I was driving and the driver of the other car (he was alone) escaped with minor injuries. In all, we give thanks to the Lord.”
Dan did not disclose what caused the crash, while police have reportedly launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident.
The incident comes at a difficult moment for the Obado family following the recent conviction of former Migori Governor Okoth Obado in the murder of university student Sharon Otieno.
The convictions brought to a close one of Kenya’s longest-running and most closely watched criminal trials, with sentencing expected after the conclusion of mitigation proceedings.
