NAIROBI, Kenya – Detectives drawn from the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) have arrested a passenger allegedly transporting heroin worth Sh1 million aboard a Nairobi-bound bus.

In a statement, detectives intercepted the bus along the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway at Taru after acting on intelligence, leading to the recovery of 300 grammes of heroin concealed inside a brown bag.

“What appeared to be an ordinary passenger screening quickly turned into a major narcotics bust,” police said.

The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Brian Tabu Owuor, was occupying Seat No. 29 when detectives conducted the search.

Officers also recovered Sh95,000 in cash, believed to be proceeds of crime.

Police said the suspect was arrested and remains in custody pending arraignment.

“The suspect was immediately arrested and is currently in police custody undergoing processing pending arraignment,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said.

The recovered heroin and cash have been detained as exhibits as investigations continue.
