NAIROBI, Kenya- Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has publicly appealed to one of his media team members to reconsider her resignation, offering her a salary increment and improved employment terms in a bid to retain her.
Salasya was responding after Harriet Njenga, who served as his social media manager and a member of the Salasya TV team, announced her resignation on Saturday, saying she was leaving to pursue new personal and professional opportunities.
In her resignation message, Njenga said the decision had not been made lightly but was necessary for her career growth.
She noted that she joined Salasya’s team on December 20, 2024, where she was responsible for managing the legislator’s online presence, creating digital content, covering events and helping build his personal brand across various social media platforms.
Reacting to the announcement, Salasya said he was surprised to learn of the resignation through social media and praised Njenga for her dedication in what he described as a demanding political environment.
“I was surprised to see your post on social media about your resignation, Harriet Njenga. Over the past years, you have been an integral part of my media team, and your contribution has been exceptional, particularly within the demanding political environment in which we operate,” Salasya wrote.
The MP credited Njenga with playing a key role in expanding his digital footprint on platforms including YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and X.
He also commended her collaboration with other members of his communications team, saying their efforts had strengthened his public engagement and communication strategy.
Rather than accepting her resignation immediately, Salasya extended an offer aimed at persuading her to remain in his team.
“I value your professionalism, commitment and the significant role you continue to play within my team. In light of this, I would like to invite you to report to the office on Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. My personal assistant has prepared a revised employment contract reflecting a salary increment together with improved allowances in recognition of your contribution and dedication,” he said.
The lawmaker revealed that a revised employment contract had already been prepared, featuring a pay rise and enhanced allowances.
Salasya also reflected on the working relationship they had built, saying the team had travelled extensively across the country while growing his media and communications presence.
It remains unclear whether Njenga will accept the revised offer or proceed with her resignation.
