Police Welfare Boosted as CBK Commissions New Housing Project in Nairobi

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — President William Ruto on Tuesday officially opened the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Police Housing Complex in Nairobi’s Industrial Area, marking a significant step in efforts to improve the welfare of police officers through inter-agency partnerships.

The state-of-the-art facility, developed through a strategic collaboration between the CBK and the National Police Service (NPS), comprises 210 fully furnished apartments—200 two-bedroom units and 10 three-bedroom units.

The complex also features a gymnasium and a daycare centre, reflecting a broader commitment to dignified, high-quality living conditions for officers assigned to safeguard the country’s central bank operations.

Speaking during the inauguration, President Ruto praised the CBK-NPS partnership, calling the housing project “a milestone in restoring the pride and dignity of our men and women in uniform.”

He said the initiative demonstrated how government institutions can work together to deliver sustainable, long-term solutions to systemic challenges.

The CBK housing project is part of a broader cooperation framework between the bank and the police, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding that has also yielded other landmark developments, including the National Police Leadership Academy in Ngong’—a premier institution for training senior police commanders.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, who accompanied the President at the event, said the new facility not only meets the accommodation needs of officers but also enhances their operational readiness and morale.

The event drew senior government and security officials, among them Lands and Housing Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome, Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo, National Treasury PS Dr. Chris Kiptoo, Housing and Urban Development PS Charles Hinga, and CBK Governor Dr. Kamau Thugge.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja and top leadership from the NPS and Directorate of Criminal Investigations were also present.

The CBK Police Housing Complex is seen as a model for future institutional partnerships aimed at addressing persistent challenges in the public sector, particularly in the realm of housing, service delivery, and welfare of security personnel.
