Pope Leo XIV: President William Ruto Leads Kenyans in Congratulating New Pontiff

NAIROBI, Kenya – President William Ruto has led Kenyans in congratulating the newly elected Pope Leo XIV, marking a historic moment with the election of the first American-born pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church.

In a heartfelt message, President Ruto expressed his well wishes for Pope Leo XIV’s papacy, praying that it would bring light, hope, and compassion to the world.

“May your papacy be a shining light of love, hope, and compassion; may it uplift the poor, give voice to the voiceless, heal divisions, and steadfastly champion peace, justice, and the sanctity of human dignity around the world,” President Ruto wrote.

He also called for the new pope’s leadership to inspire faith, unity, and moral renewal both now and for generations to come.

Other prominent leaders, including lawyer Donald Kipkorir and former vice president Kalonzo Musyoka, also took to social media to celebrate the momentous occasion.

“Habemus Papam! We have a pope!” Kipkorir wrote, acknowledging the significance of the first American pope, Pope Leo XIV.

Kalonzo Musyoka shared his congratulations, particularly recognizing the moment as significant for the global Catholic family, with 1.4 billion Catholics worldwide.

Governor Patrick Ntutu also joined in extending heartfelt congratulations, praying that Pope Leo XIV’s leadership would be marked by unity, peace, and a deep commitment to faith.

Additionally, Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen expressed their congratulations, with Murkomen highlighting the spiritual renewal and hope Pope Leo XIV’s ascension represents for humanity.

The outpouring of support from Kenya’s leaders underscores the global significance of Pope Leo XIV’s election and the collective hopes for his papacy to usher in peace and unity.
