NAIROBI, Kenya — President William Ruto has directed the Public Service Commission (PSC) to accelerate reforms aimed at modernising Kenya’s public service through digital transformation, saying the changes are critical to supporting the country’s transition into a first-world economy.
The President made the remarks on Wednesday during a courtesy call by PSC commissioners led by Chairperson Francis Meja at State House, Nairobi.
President Ruto said the Commission should institutionalise digitalisation by replacing manual and paper-based systems with automated, data-driven processes to improve efficiency and service delivery across government.
He noted that embracing technology is essential to creating a responsive and citizen-centred public service capable of meeting the country’s growing development needs.
“The Public Service must embrace digital transformation to improve efficiency, enhance service delivery and create greater value for citizens,” the President said.
He warned that modernising government systems is an urgent priority, adding that failure to implement the necessary reforms could hinder the Commission’s ability to effectively respond to the evolving needs of Kenyans.
President Ruto also called for the expansion of the Public Service Internship Programme (PSIP) to provide more university and college graduates with practical workplace experience, saying the initiative is key to preparing a skilled workforce for the future.
Additionally, he urged the Commission to strengthen performance contracting across the Public Service to ensure government institutions effectively measure results, enhance accountability, improve productivity and deliver better services to citizens.
The meeting reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to building a modern, efficient and citizen-focused Public Service capable of driving Kenya’s long-term socio-economic transformation.
Also present at the meeting were Deputy Head of Public Service Amos Gathecha, PSC Vice Chairperson Mary Kimonye, commissioners and PSC Secretary and Chief Executive Officer Paul Famba.
