KAKAMEGA, Kenya- Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and several of his political allies were met with a thunderous reception from supporters as they arrived at Amalemba Grounds in Kakamega County ahead of the highly anticipated Linda Mwananchi rally.
Supporters began gathering early in large numbers, with crowds welcoming Sifuna and MP Babu Owino as they landed at the Kakamega airstrip and joined a growing procession toward the rally venue.
The reception reflects strong local interest in the Linda Mwananchi campaign, a grassroots political mobilisation effort led by Sifuna and allied figures, including Siaya Governor James Orengo and Senator Godfrey Osotsi, as they seek to build momentum in Western Kenya ahead of the 2027 general election.

The build‑up to the rally has not been without tension. Police earlier stated they had not received formal notification of the event, even as organisers said they followed due process.
Tensions have been visible in the area, including reports of tear gas at the grounds and security preparations by police in anticipation of the large crowd.
Despite these challenges, large numbers of residents have continued to arrive at Amalemba Grounds throughout the morning, greeting Sifuna and his team enthusiastically and signalling significant local engagement with the event.
The rally is expected to address issues affecting ordinary Kenyans, with Sifuna and other speakers using the platform to outline their positions on governance, economic pressures and the political landscape ahead of the next election.
