NAIROBI, Kenya — Thousands of Facebook users in Kenya experienced difficulties accessing the social media platform through desktop web browsers on Sunday, with many reporting they were unable to log into their accounts.
The disruption primarily affected users accessing Facebook on laptops and desktop computers, particularly those using Windows devices, while the mobile application continued to function for many users.
According to reports monitored on Sunday morning, complaints began increasing at around 10:45 a.m., suggesting a sudden service disruption affecting desktop access.
Users receive temporary error message
Many users attempting to log in through a web browser encountered an error message indicating that the problem was linked to the platform rather than their individual accounts.
The message read:
“Your account is temporarily unavailable. Due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes.”
Others reported receiving notifications indicating that their accounts could not be found or were temporarily inaccessible despite previously logging in successfully.
The nature of the error suggested a technical issue affecting Facebook’s web platform rather than user account settings.

Mobile app largely unaffected
While desktop users experienced login failures, many users reported that Facebook’s mobile application remained accessible, allowing them to continue using the platform on smartphones and tablets.
The difference in performance between the desktop and mobile platforms pointed to a possible issue affecting Facebook’s browser-based services.
Meta yet to comment
By the time of publication, Meta, Facebook’s parent company, had not issued an official statement explaining the cause of the disruption or indicating when normal service would be restored.
There were also no immediate reports confirming a widespread global outage, with early indications suggesting the issue was affecting users in Kenya accessing Facebook via desktop browsers.
Users experiencing the problem are advised to avoid repeatedly attempting to log in or changing account credentials while the outage persists, as such issues are typically resolved once the platform restores its services.
Further updates are expected once Meta provides an official explanation or confirms the scope of the disruption.
