Zetech University Recognized for Pioneering Innovations that Address Kenya’s Modern Challenges

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- As the Kenyan government amplifies its support for innovation in universities, institutions like Zetech University are rising to the challenge, consistently delivering creative solutions that could tackle some of today’s most pressing issues.

From award-winning cybersecurity systems to innovative IoT technologies, Zetech is proving to be a hotbed of talent and innovation.

Zetech University has been making waves in the tech world, particularly with its recent success at the World Skills Kenya National Competition.

Held at the Kenya School of TVET in Nairobi, this event brought together some of the brightest minds in the country, and Zetech’s students didn’t disappoint.

Mburu Karanja and Simon Wafula, representing Zetech, clinched the first runner-up position in the Cyber Security and CISCO Networks category.

Their project focused on performing security checks to assess system vulnerabilities and providing recommendations to secure these systems—a solution that could be pivotal for businesses and government entities alike as cyber threats continue to evolve.

But that’s not all. Zetech students also showcased a variety of other innovations, including an Automatic Shower System by Kennedy Kimari, a Face Recognition Security System by Mike Francis Ng’ang’a, and a Water Quality Monitoring System by Michael Kamau.

Just a few months ago, the university received accolades for its AirSafi project—an Internet of Things (IoT) innovation designed to monitor air quality.

This project secured third place at the Inter-University Power Learn Project Hackathon, further cementing Zetech’s reputation as a leader in tech innovation.

Moreover, the university was the first runner-up in the African Telecommunication Union (ATU) Innovation Challenge’s third edition, showcasing their Smart Pest Deterrent System.

This technology, which protects farms from birds and pests, not only demonstrates Zetech’s ability to innovate but also its focus on solutions that have a direct impact on Kenya’s agricultural sector—a critical area for the country’s economy.

Zetech has also been recognized by the Kenya Education Network Trust (KENET) for its exceptional utilization of online resources and e-learning platforms, underlining its forward-thinking approach to education in the digital age.

Speaking on these achievements, Zetech University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Njenga Munene emphasized that these projects are a testament to the university’s dedication to nurturing talent and fostering innovation.

According to Prof. Munene, the success of these students is not just a reflection of their creativity and technical prowess, but also of the high level of training and mentorship provided by the university.

He believes that Zetech is on the right trajectory, playing a crucial role in shaping Kenya’s tech talents and skills for both the national and global stage.

“The achievements at this year’s competition are a clear indication that the institution is on the right trajectory and continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the current and the future of Kenya’s tech skills and talents,” said Prof. Munene. The World Skills Kenya National Competition, organized by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Authority, the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), International Labour Organization (ILO), and Huawei, serves as a platform to showcase and elevate technical skills across the country.
