Court Orders 7-Day Detention for Phillip Aroko Amid Claims He Funded MP Charles Were’s Murder

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Politician and businessman Phillip Aroko has been detained for seven days following his appearance at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Court on Friday, after being linked to the murder of Kasipul Kabondo MP Charles Were.

The court was informed that Aroko is believed to have financed the assassination and played a central role in its planning.

During the court proceedings, the prosecution revealed that Aroko’s communication records and financial transactions had established connections to several individuals involved in the murder.

Investigators presented evidence of meetings held in Homabay, Nairobi, and Nakuru, which were allegedly part of the coordinated efforts to execute the crime.

The State also revealed that the late MP, Charles Were, had reported threats from Aroko to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) prior to his death.

Despite the serious allegations, Aroko opposed a lengthy detention, citing health concerns for both himself and his sickly wife.

However, the court granted a seven-day custodial period at Kileleshwa Police Station, allowing the prosecution time to complete their investigation and ensure witness protection.

Aroko, who voluntarily appeared in court, assured the court of his willingness to cooperate with the investigation.
