NAIROBI, Kenya- Four members of former Chief Justice David Maraga’s campaign team were injured in a grisly road accident on Tuesday night while travelling back to Nairobi.
The incident occurred after the team had accompanied other members of the United Green Movement (UGM) earlier in the day.
Collision Involving Lorry and Campaign Vehicle
According to preliminary reports, the crash involved the campaign team’s car and a lorry that lost control and veered off the road before colliding with the vehicle.
Rescue teams quickly responded, rushing the injured campaign members to hospital. No fatalities were reported.
“We have been informed of a ghastly road accident that has occurred, involving four of our campaign team members. They have all been rushed to the hospital,” Maraga said in a statement. He added that the four were returning from Nyamira when the lorry swerved into their lane.
Images from the scene showed the campaign vehicle with extensive damage to its front section, a broken windscreen, and deflated tyres.
The accident comes amid intensified multi-agency road inspections led by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), the National Police Service (NPS), and the Judiciary.
The crackdown, launched earlier this month, aims to reduce road accidents and curb corruption on major highways during the festive season.
Road Safety Under Spotlight
The two accidents highlight ongoing concerns over road safety in Kenya, particularly during the December festive period when traffic volumes rise sharply.
Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere to safety regulations as enforcement continues nationwide.
