Six Killed, Scores Injured in Bus-Truck Collision on Mombasa–Nairobi Highway

Date:

MACHAKOS, Kenya- At least six people were killed and several others injured on Tuesday morning after a passenger bus collided head-on with a truck at Kapiti along the busy Mombasa–Nairobi Highway in Machakos County.

Kalama Sub-County Police Commander Patrick Gaitirira confirmed the fatalities, saying the crash occurred in the Kapiti area, with emergency responders rushing to the scene to rescue survivors.

Police said the collision left the bus extensively damaged, trapping some passengers in the wreckage as rescue teams worked to free them.

The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment, while the bodies of those killed were moved to the mortuary pending identification and post-mortem examinations.

Authorities have launched investigations to establish the circumstances that led to the crash.

The latest tragedy adds to a growing number of fatal road accidents reported on Kenya’s highways in recent weeks, renewing concerns over road safety on the heavily trafficked Nairobi–Mombasa corridor.

Road safety agencies have repeatedly urged motorists to observe speed limits, avoid dangerous overtaking and exercise caution, particularly on high-risk sections of the highway.
