KCSE 2024: Best Colleges, Universities that Accept Candidates Who Scored D+ and Above

NAIROBI, Kenya – Candidates obtaining D+ and D (plain) grades on the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam do not have to give up.

This follows the announcement that the candidates can enrol in any certificate program in 2025.

Numerous colleges and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions that have obtained approval from the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) offer certificates.

Y News looks at some of these courses and institutions spread across the country that can accommodate the D+ and above students wishing to pursue their dream careers.

Fashion design, tailoring and dressmaking, and clothing technology

These are among the clothing, fashion, and textiles certificates.

Baringo Technical College, Belgut TVET, Eldoret Polytechnic, Emining Technical Training Institute, Friends College Kaimosi, and Keroka Technical Training Institute are a few of the institutions providing the courses.

Library and Information Science

Students can apply for a Certificate in Information Science at the following TVET institutions: Belgut, Ebukanga, Eldama Ravine, Kajiado West, Kerio Valley, Kipkabus, Lodwar, and Masinga. Students must have received a mean grade of D or higher.

In addition, Eldoret, Meru, Sigalagala, Bungoma Polytechnics, and the previously stated schools provide a certificate in Library Archives and Information Management.

IT, or Information Technology

Computer science, information communication and technology (ICT), and computer programming are among the courses in this area.

The Coast Institute of Technology, Aldai, Bureti, and Ahmed Shahame Mwidani are among the technical training institutes that provide the courses.

The following TVET institutions also offer the courses: Bureti, Chamasiri, Chepsirei, Butula, Bunyala, and Eldama Ravine.

Beauty therapy and Hairdressing

TVET institutions accept applications for Kakrao, Kandara, Kasarani, Kendege, Kieni, Kipsoen, Kiptaragon, and Kitutu Masaba courses. Students must have at least a KCSE mark of D.

Other TVET institutes include those in Lodwar, Limuru, Mathioya, Mbeere North, Molo, Mwala, Nachu, Nuu, and Okame.

Engineering technology

Students who missed degree and diploma programs in engineering technology can enrol at KUCCPS-approved institutions to obtain engineering certificates.

Currently, the engineering industry offers 99 certificate programs authorised by KUCCPS.

The most well-liked ones are those for mechanical, civil, electrical, electronic, agricultural, and automotive engineering credentials.

The courses are offered at Eldoret, Kisii, Kisumu, Kitale, Nyeri, and Sigalagala Polytechnics.

Students can apply to these courses in TVET institutions such as Weru, Webuye, Turbo, Tigania East, Shamberembere, Runyenjes, and Ugunja Technical and Vocational Colleges.

Ol’lessos, Karen, Katine, and Konoin are the training centres that provide the courses.

Building and Construction

Road construction, concrete construction, land survey, construction technology, and construction foreperson are among the building and construction certificate courses that fall under this category.

Eldoret Polytechnic is one of the top universities that provides certificates in building and construction.

Kisumu, Kitale, Meru, Sigalagala, and Bungoma Polytechnics also offer the courses.

Business and Related Subjects

Various Kenyan colleges and TVET institutes offer 75 authorised business and related courses.

The most well-liked ones authorised by KUCCPS include supply chain management, accounting, banking and finance, sales and marketing, entrepreneurship, and secretarial studies.

There are also project management, human resources management, credit management, business administration, and cooperative management.

Belgut, Bushiangala, Riragia, Aldai, Bunyala, Gatundu South, and Gitwebe TVET institutes are a few of the establishments that provide the courses.

How many candidates scored D+ in KCSE 2024

While releasing the 2024 KCSE examination results, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius said that 605,774 (62.76%) candidates attained a pass grade of D+ and above.

CS Ogamba compared this to 526,222 (58.27%) in 2023.

The CS spoke at the event held at the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) headquarters in Mitihani House in South C, Nairobi.
