NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenya has launched a new global tourism campaign dubbed “Experience Wonder,” aimed at strengthening the country’s international tourism profile and attracting more global travellers.
The initiative, anchored under the “Origin of Wonder” brand, was unveiled during the ITB Berlin 2026, one of the world’s largest tourism trade exhibitions.
Officials say the campaign highlights Kenya’s diverse tourism offerings, ranging from wildlife safaris and pristine beaches to cultural heritage experiences, adventure tourism, wellness travel, and luxury hospitality.
Connecting visitors to Kenya’s heritage
John Ololtuaa said the campaign seeks to connect international visitors with Kenya’s unique global identity as the cradle of humankind and a destination known for iconic travel experiences.
“The campaign connects visitors with Kenya’s unique heritage as the cradle of humankind and home to some of the world’s most iconic tourism experiences,” Ololtuaa said during the launch.
The strategy also reflects changing global travel trends, including growing demand for authentic and immersive experiences, environmentally responsible tourism, and digitally enhanced travel planning.
Digital innovations for travellers
As part of the campaign, the government has introduced several digital innovations designed to enhance the visitor journey.
Among them is the Magical Kenya Destination Passport, a digital engagement tool aimed at encouraging tourists to explore multiple destinations across the country.
Authorities say the platform will reward travellers for visiting various attractions while promoting lesser-known tourism circuits.
Targeting younger travellers
June Chepkemei said the campaign also targets emerging travel markets, particularly Millennials and Generation Z tourists who are increasingly seeking meaningful and shareable travel experiences.
“The campaign will help showcase Kenya’s authentic travel experiences to global markets,” Chepkemei said.
Officials believe younger travellers are driving demand for experiential tourism, adventure travel, and cultural immersion.
Tourism diplomacy and growth targets
Kenya’s ambassador to Germany, Stella Mokaya Orina, said tourism diplomacy will play a critical role in converting the campaign into economic benefits.
She noted that diplomatic missions abroad will support efforts to attract investors and visitors by promoting Kenya’s tourism opportunities.
The government has set an ambitious target of five million international tourist arrivals by 2027, supported by expanded flight connectivity, improved tourism infrastructure, and streamlined electronic travel authorisation processes.
The sector shows a strong recovery
The launch comes as Kenya’s tourism sector continues to rebound strongly after the global disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Official data shows international tourist arrivals rose 14.7pc to 2.39 million visitors in 2024, while inbound tourism earnings increased 19.8pc to Sh452.2 billion.
The United States remains Kenya’s largest source market, accounting for 12.8pc of arrivals, while visitors from Europe make up 28.1pc of the total.
Tourism officials say the “Experience Wonder” campaign aims to build on this momentum by positioning Kenya as a world-class destination for wildlife, culture, adventure, and sustainable tourism.
