MARALAL, Kenya- Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has intensified the Kenya Kwanza administration’s grassroots mobilisation campaign, urging Samburu residents to support President William Ruto’s re-election in 2027, arguing that a second term is necessary to complete ongoing infrastructure and development projects in the historically marginalised county.
Speaking during a public engagement in Maralal on Saturday, Kindiki said the government’s investments in roads, markets and water infrastructure had transformed Samburu’s development trajectory, describing the projects as evidence of President Ruto’s commitment to equitable development across the country.
He argued that the construction of tarmac roads in Samburu marked a significant departure from previous administrations, saying the county had for years been overlooked in national infrastructure planning.
“President William Ruto is the first President to initiate the construction of tarmac roads in Samburu. The people of Samburu should support his second-term bid so these transformative projects can be completed,” Kindiki said.
The Deputy President dismissed campaigns calling for Ruto to serve only one term, saying such calls were not in the best interests of Samburu residents because they could disrupt ongoing development programmes.
Kindiki highlighted the ongoing construction of the Maralal–Morijo section of a major highway linking Maralal, Morijo, Baragoi, South Horr and Loiyangalani, with a planned extension to the Ethiopian border.
He said contractors were already on site and that the project would significantly improve connectivity and economic opportunities across Northern Kenya.
He also cited the Isiolo–Kulamawe–Modogashe–Samatar–Wajir–Kotulo–Elwak–Mandera road as another flagship infrastructure project currently under implementation, saying residents were beginning to witness the government’s commitment after initial scepticism.
On economic development, Kindiki pointed to the construction of modern markets in Maralal, Baragoi, Serolipi and Kirimon, saying the facilities would improve the business environment for traders while expanding economic opportunities for local communities.
The Deputy President also warned the contractor undertaking the Yamo Dam project against delays, noting that while the dam itself had been completed, the associated water treatment plant remained unfinished.
“We will not tolerate unnecessary delays. Residents must begin benefiting fully from this investment,” he said.
On the political front, Kindiki welcomed leaders who have recently defected to the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and called for greater unity among parties supporting President Ruto, including those working with the government under the broad-based political arrangement.
He maintained that development should not be determined by how regions voted during elections, saying the government has a constitutional obligation to serve all Kenyans equally.
“When President William Ruto was elected in 2022, he became the President of all Kenyans—those who voted for him and those who did not. Development must reach every part of the country without discrimination,” Kindiki said.
The Deputy President further urged leaders allied to the government to remain united behind President Ruto’s 2027 presidential bid while allowing healthy political competition for other elective positions.
His remarks come as political leaders across the country continue to intensify grassroots mobilisation and realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election, with both the ruling coalition and opposition seeking to consolidate support in key regions.
