NAIROBI, Kenya- Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo is back in the political hot seat after a group of county legislators launched a renewed effort to remove him from office.
The move marks one of the most coordinated attempts yet to challenge his leadership, coming at a time when he is already grappling with a high-profile corruption probe.
Fresh Motion Lands in the Assembly
During a special sitting on Monday, Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) formally tabled a new impeachment motion targeting the governor. The bid is being championed by Bonyamatuta Ward MCA Julius Kimwomi Matwere, who wants the House to examine claims that Nyaribo has violated the Constitution and abused his office.
The motion sets the stage for yet another showdown in the Nyamira County Assembly, which has in the past been sharply divided over the governor’s leadership style and development priorities.
If admitted for debate, the motion could trigger days of heated deliberations as MCAs weigh evidence and political loyalties.
The timing of the impeachment attempt is far from accidental. Governor Nyaribo has been under intense public scrutiny following a corruption investigation tied to a Sh 382 million procurement contract.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) recently raided his homes and county offices, searching for documents and digital records that may aid the probe.
While the governor has yet to address the latest impeachment effort publicly, the raids have increased political pressure and emboldened critics who argue that Nyamira needs a leadership reset.
Supporters of the governor, however, insist the investigations are being weaponized to weaken him ahead of the 2027 political realignments.
