NAIROBI, Kenya — Police have arrested a suspect and recovered 36 mobile phones believed to have been stolen during an operation in Kariobangi North, Nairobi.
Officers from Kariobangi North Police Station acted on intelligence provided by members of the public and conducted the operation along Kamunde Road in the Kanyama area of Kariobangi North Ward. The operation led to the arrest of a suspect who was found in possession of assorted smartphones.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), the recovered phones are suspected to be proceeds of crime and have been secured as exhibits pending further investigations. The suspect was placed in police custody and is expected to be processed and arraigned in court.
Police said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal networks involved in theft and handling of stolen property within Nairobi’s informal settlements and surrounding residential areas.
The NPS commended members of the public for providing timely information, noting that community cooperation remains critical in crime prevention and detection.
“The National Police Service reiterates its commitment to combating crime and appreciates the public for the information that led to the arrest and recovery,” the Service said in a statement.
Authorities urged the public to continue sharing intelligence with law enforcement agencies, saying such collaboration enhances response times and improves safety across neighbourhoods.
Investigations into the origin of the recovered phones and possible links to broader theft syndicates are ongoing.
