Power Outage Alert: Kenya Power Schedules Blackouts in 12 Counties

Date:

Lights Out: Scheduled Power Interruptions on Tuesday

Kenya Power has announced a planned power outage affecting multiple regions across the country on Tuesday.

The blackouts, set to last between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., are part of ongoing system maintenance efforts to enhance reliability.

The affected counties include Nairobi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Kiambu, Kilifi, Mombasa, Machakos, Homa Bay, Nyeri, Nyamira, and Marsabit.

If you live in these areas, brace for potential disruptions—and maybe keep that power bank charged.

Which Areas Will Be Affected?

Nairobi and Kiambu

Nairobi will experience outages in Westlands, Ngara, and Galleria Gardens, as well as around St. Thomas Seminary and Catholic University.

Other affected areas include Mugo Kibiru Road, Joseph Kangethe Road, Moi Girls High School, and Toi Market.

In neighboring Kiambu, power interruptions will impact Banana, Muchatha, Juja Farm, and parts of Ruiru, including Murera Sisal, Matangi-Ni, and PCEA Tumaini.

Businesses, schools, and residential areas will need to plan accordingly.

Coastal and Western Kenya

Mombasa and Kilifi aren’t spared either. Power cuts will hit areas such as Kiembeni, Naivas Bamburi, Kadzandani, and Mtopanga Secondary in Mombasa, while Kilifi residents in Greenwood, Coca-Cola Bottlers, and Mzuri Sweets should also prepare for outages.

In Western Kenya, parts of Kakamega, Vihiga, and Bungoma will be affected.

Key locations include Ekero, Shianda, and Emakwale in Kakamega, Emanda, Kidundu, and Maragoli Booster in Vihiga, and Bukembe Market and Matisi Water in Bungoma.

Mount Kenya and Rift Valley Regions

Residents in Nyeri, Nyamira, and Marsabit should also expect outages. Areas affected in Nyeri include Mt. Kenya Junior School, Kimathi Water Pump, and Chinga Boys High School.

In Nyamira, Nyamaiya Town, Corner S Resort, and Nyansabakwa High School will be impacted.

In Marsabit, power cuts will affect Marsabit Town, Karare Market, and Badassa Water, among others.

If you’re in these regions, it might be a good day to head outdoors—just don’t count on a fully charged phone.

Plan Ahead: What You Can Do

If you’re in an affected area, consider these steps to minimize disruption:
✔ Charge essential devices beforehand.
✔ Store water if you’re in an area where supply depends on electricity.
✔ Use the outage time for offline tasks or outdoor activities.
