NAIROBI, Kenya – Opposition leader Raila Odinga, Kenya’s candidate for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship, arrived at State House, Nairobi, Tuesday morning.
Odinga, accompanied by his wife Ida, was received by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi at approximately 10:20 a.m.
The two exchanged pleasantries before posing for photographs and being ushered into a private holding room.
The event, anticipated to be a milestone in Odinga’s career, will see President William Ruto officially endorse Odinga’s candidacy for the AUC chairmanship.

The high-profile ceremony will be attended by at least six African presidents, highlighting the importance of this occasion not only for Kenya but for the broader African political landscape.
Cabinet Secretaries and several prominent leaders from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) were also spotted at the event, mingling and sharing light moments at the state pavilion, which was adorned with the flags of the African Union, Kenya, and the East African Community (EAC).
Earlier in the day, Odinga had met with a group of leaders from his party at a Nairobi hotel, likely strategizing ahead of the formal endorsement.
This marks only the second time Odinga has set foot in State House since President Ruto’s election, indicating a potential warming of relations between the two political heavyweights.
