NAIROBI, Kenya- Kenya’s former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, has taken his bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson role into high gear as the February 2025 election draws closer.
With a vision for a more connected and innovative Africa, Odinga has embarked on a diplomatic tour across North and West Africa, rallying support for his candidacy.
In a strategic push for endorsements, Odinga recently visited Chad, where he met President Mahamat Idriss Déby.
The meeting, which highlighted his agenda for the AUC chairmanship, focused on fostering unity across the continent through enhanced infrastructure, intra-African trade, and more accessible visa policies.
“It will take the goodwill of all of us—leaders and citizens—working together to dismantle barriers and amplify Africa’s voice on the global stage,” Odinga posted on X (formerly Twitter).
He stressed the importance of addressing challenges that hinder regional cohesion, positioning infrastructure and trade as cornerstones of his vision.
Odinga’s campaign places African youth at the center of his strategy, emphasizing their potential to drive innovation and economic growth.
“I envision vibrant cities buzzing with energy, where young entrepreneurs leverage technology and creativity to build dynamic businesses,” Odinga shared during his visit to Chad.
He noted that empowering young people and fostering homegrown solutions are critical to addressing the continent’s unique challenges.
President Déby expressed appreciation for Odinga’s vision, highlighting the shared commitment to advancing African solutions for African problems.
With a focus on dismantling barriers, amplifying trade, and empowering youth, his campaign promises a future where Africa’s potential is fully realized.
