Viral TikToker Accused of Defrauding Job Seekers
NAIROBI, Kenya – Popular TikToker Rish Kamunge has landed in hot water after being arrested over allegations of running a fake overseas job agency that scammed Kenyans out of millions.
On March 26, 2025, frustrated job seekers stormed the offices of her travel agency, Trust Pin Verified Agency Limited, demanding refunds before dragging her to the police station.
Nairobi Central Sub-County Commander Stephen Okal has urged victims to report to Central Police Station to assist in the investigations.
Authorities are also calling on other potential victims to come forward with relevant information.
How the Alleged Job Scam Worked
According to reports, Rish Kamunge promoted overseas job opportunities via her popular TikTok account, attracting desperate job seekers looking for employment.
Victims claim they were required to pay Sh200,000 to secure jobs, mainly in Mauritius.
This amount allegedly covered airfare, agency fees, and other related costs.
However, upon arrival, many found that the promised jobs and hotels simply did not exist—leaving them stranded in a foreign country with no support.
The scammed individuals, mostly unemployed youth, have since recorded statements with the police, detailing how they fell for what they now believe was a well-orchestrated con.
Lawyer Claims It Was a “Misunderstanding”
In the wake of her arrest, Kamunge’s lawyer has insisted that his client is willing to reimburse victims who did not receive job placements.
He also downplayed the accusations, describing the case as a “misrepresentation” against her agency rather than outright fraud.
However, with mounting complaints and growing public outrage, this saga is far from over.
Who is Rish Kamunge?
Before this scandal, Rish Kamunge was best known as a Kenyan TikToker and entrepreneur, amassing a huge following through her lifestyle, travel, and business-related content.
She showcased a lavish lifestyle, often flaunting luxury trips, high-end cars, and designer outfits on TikTok.
She is the founder of Trust Pin Verified Agency Ltd, a company that allegedly promised overseas job placements—promises that now appear questionable at best.
