US, UK Envoys Meet Former President Kenyatta to Discuss Regional Peace Efforts

Date:

KIAMBU, Kenya – US and UK diplomats on Wednesday held separate meetings with retired Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta at his Kiambu home to discuss ongoing regional peace efforts.

A statement from the Office of the 4th President of Kenya confirmed the talks, noting that they centered on the Nairobi Peace Process and broader regional initiatives aimed at restoring stability in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The Nairobi Process, spearheaded by the East African Community (EAC), was launched in April 2022 to address the protracted conflict in Eastern DRC.

The initiative emphasizes dialogue, inclusivity, and regional leadership while seeking international backing to resolve the crisis.

It engages key stakeholders, including the Congolese government, armed groups, civil society organizations, and global partners, in negotiations for a sustainable peace.

Kenyatta, as the facilitator of the EAC-led initiative, has played a central role in fostering dialogue among conflicting parties since the process began.

His continued involvement underscores Kenya’s commitment to regional stability and cooperation.
