Kenya and Netherlands Strengthen Trade Ties Ahead of Joint Trade Committee

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — The Netherlands, one of Kenya’s top export markets in the European Union, particularly for cut flowers and horticultural products, is set to deepen trade relations with Kenya following a high-level engagement at the Ministry of Trade.

Deputy Head of Mission and Head of Trade and Development at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Kenya, Jaco Beerends, visited Principal Secretary for Trade Regina Ombam to discuss ways of advancing bilateral cooperation under the EU Global Gateway initiative.

During the meeting, both sides emphasized the strategic importance of the Northern Corridor as a key trade and transport route.

Ongoing and planned infrastructure upgrades are expected to enhance efficiency, reduce logistics costs, and improve the movement of goods from the Port of Mombasa to regional and international markets.

Preparations for the upcoming Joint Trade Committee (JTC) scheduled for April were also discussed. The JTC will provide a platform to strengthen bilateral trade ties, address market access issues, and explore cooperation in areas such as digital trade, health, and logistics.

Both Kenya and the Netherlands reaffirmed their longstanding trade relationship and expressed commitment to further deepen cooperation for mutual benefit, reinforcing the potential of enhanced economic engagement between the two countries.
