Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina has released a new love song, Hit and Run, returning to music after years focused on politics and her legal studies.
The music video was published on YouTube on Thursday, October 22.
Its description credits Maina as the writer and performer, with video production by Afrikana Photo Studios and audio by Dr Eddie.
Maina said the song was written years ago but she had not recorded it as she pursued her political career and law studies.
She told K24 that Kameme FM presenter Muthoni Baby Top challenged her to return to the studio, prompting her to complete and release the track.
“The song is now on YouTube, called Hit and Run,” Maina said.
She added that she wanted to make time for interests that brought her personal fulfilment, saying: “I love music, art and creating.”
Song explores relationships
Hit and Run is a love song about partners who pursue relationships without intending to make a lasting commitment.
Its video depicts a romantic pursuit, with scenes filmed at a resort and along a beach in Mombasa.
The video also features Kirinyaga Senator James Kamau Murango and Baragwi Ward MCA David Mathenge.
Maina said they joined the cast after the production team struggled to find models for the shoot in Mombasa.
She thanked the two politicians for supporting the project and agreeing to appear in the video.
Maina has invited fans to watch the video and take part in online challenges linked to the song.
She said cash prizes would be offered to participants.
The lawmaker also encouraged people to return to interests they may have set aside while pursuing other goals.
She said the song marked a personal decision to resume creative work alongside her public responsibilities.
Maina had pursued music before entering politics, recording songs while at university under the stage name Carola Jayne.
She later became known nationally as a lawyer and human rights advocate before being elected Kirinyaga Woman Representative in 2022.
