Kim Kardashian has been awarded €1 in civil damages by a Paris court following the armed robbery that left her bound and held at gunpoint in her hotel suite nearly a decade ago.
The court issued the ruling on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, after Kardashian asked for the symbolic amount in a civil case linked to the 2016 heist.
The award does not represent the value of the jewellery stolen from her. Instead, Kardashian and her stylist, Simone Harouche, who was also present during the robbery, sought only a symbolic payment.
In a joint statement after the ruling, the two said the case was about recognition of what happened to them rather than money.
“Today’s decision is not about the compensation, but about accountability and recognition,” they said in a statement provided to The Associated Press.
Kardashian’s request for €1 reflected the purpose of her civil claim.
The SKIMS founder did not ask the court to compensate her for the millions of dollars in jewellery stolen during the robbery. Instead, the symbolic award provided formal recognition of the harm she experienced during the attack.
The court’s decision followed years of legal proceedings over the robbery, which Kardashian previously described as “the most terrifying experience of my life.”
During the robbery, masked men disguised as police officers entered her Paris hotel suite, restrained her and took jewellery worth more than $6 million.
Kardashian later testified that she believed she was going to die during the attack. The robbery also left a lasting impact on her family, while most of the stolen jewellery has never been recovered. Among the missing pieces is the engagement ring worth about $4 million that Kardashian received from her then-husband, rapper Kanye West, now known as Ye.
The symbolic award also brought the civil proceedings to a close after a criminal case that ended with convictions in 2025.
A French court previously found eight people guilty of roles in the robbery. The group became known in France as the “Grandpa Robbers” because several of the defendants were in their 60s and 70s when they faced trial.
The convicted individuals did not return to prison because they had already spent time in pretrial detention. None appealed the verdict, either.
Kardashian welcomed the criminal convictions before Tuesday’s civil ruling and said she remained committed to moving forward. In a statement after the earlier verdict, she said the crime had left a lasting impact on her and her family while expressing gratitude to French authorities for pursuing the case.
While Kardashian requested only €1, other victims pursued substantial financial damages over the consequences of the robbery.
A former receptionist at the Hôtel de Pourtalès, where Kardashian was staying, received €109,516 after telling the court that the robbery had left him traumatised. He had originally sought €550,000 in damages and interest. The hotel itself received €50,000 from the court.
Harouche, Kardashian’s stylist and a fellow victim who was present during the robbery, also received €1, matching Kardashian’s request.
The different awards reflected the separate civil claims brought by those affected by the heist.
