NAIROBI, Kenya – Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has claimed that there are plans to attack him ahead of the burial of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, urging calm and respect during the ceremony.
In a statement shared on Friday, Owino said he had received intelligence about an alleged scheme to harm him “on or before the day of Baba’s burial.”
“There are plans to attack me on or before the day of Baba’s burial. I am aware of the culprits behind the scheme,” the MP said, without naming those he accused of plotting the attack.
Owino appealed for peace and unity as Kenyans prepare to lay Odinga to rest, describing the opposition leader as a national icon who deserves a dignified farewell.
“It is my prayer that we give Baba the befitting send-off that he deserves, devoid of unwarranted violence,” he added.

The legislator, a close ally of the late ODM leader, did not provide further details about the alleged threat or whether he had reported the matter to security agencies.
Security preparations are already underway across Nyanza and Nairobi counties ahead of Odinga’s funeral, which is expected to draw massive crowds of mourners and dignitaries from across the continent.
