DPP Charges Sarah Wairimu With Giving False Information Over ‘Lost’ Passport

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Sarah Wairimu Kamotho, the widow of slain Dutch businessman Tob Cohen, has been charged with providing false information to police and swearing a false affidavit regarding the alleged loss of her passport.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) filed the charges at the Kibera Law Courts, accusing Wairimu of knowingly misleading a police officer and an advocate in Nyeri County in February 2023.

According to court documents, Wairimu allegedly appeared at Munyange Police Station in Othaya on February 20, 2023, where she falsely reported to Chief Inspector Mercy Riungu, the Officer Commanding Station, that her passport had been lost. The report led police to issue her with a loss abstract.

She faces a second count of false swearing contrary to Section 114 of the Penal Code, after allegedly appearing before advocate Muchiri wa Gathoni at Pamki House in Nyeri Town on the same day and swearing a false affidavit claiming her passport was missing, despite knowing it was not.

Wairimu denied the charges before Principal Magistrate Zainab Abdul. The case was prosecuted by Samson Ng’etich.

She remains in remand at Lang’ata Women’s Prison, where she is also facing trial for the 2019 murder of her husband, Tob Cohen.
